Original Thoughts and AI
I came across this article Every Reason Why I Hate AI and You Should Too and was intrigued by the perspective here.
If a machine is consuming and transforming incalculable amounts of training data produced by humans, discussed by humans, and explained by humans. Why would the output not look identical to human reasoning? If I were to photocopy this article, nobody would argue that my photocopier wrote it and therefore can think. But add enough convolutedness to the process, and it looks a lot like maybe it did and can.
I haven’t been able to put the right words together to describe my feelings about AI but this is pretty close to it. If everything AI “thinks” is really just copy’s of human work, is it really thinking or is it just a really good search system. I would say that it is the later for sure. It is a great system for retrieving and analyzing data and information but by no means can we say these are original thoughts and creations.
I am all for the use of sustainable use of AI within business and even in some cases personal life but let’s stop pretending that these AI models are capable of an original thought when they wouldn’t exist without human thoughts, works, and creations.
